Fresh photos: Friday in Rodez

rue Aristide Briand, Rodez, January 28 2011

I've been carrying my camera around lately again, and it's been a good time to do so.

I have seen the deepest blue skies, and the most striking contrasts between shadow and light.

Sometimes passers-by look at me a bit strangely when I photograph scenes like this:

They probably can't really place me; I'm not decked out like a tourist -- there aren't many in Rodez in late January, at any rate. But I certainly don't quite look like a Ruthénoise either.

And why would I want to photograph a building like this?

They may not know, but I'm sure you do.

  1. Lovely photos. I like the combination of light and shadow.

Do you know how old the buildings are?

  2. I like how only one set of shutters is open in the 2nd photo. I also wonder what is behind the door on the top floor. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Love the shingles on the roof, and the purple shutters are so cheerful!

  4. @teacher -- No idea how old these houses are; I don't think they're extremely old, maybe 1800s? I could be totally off-base there though!

@Alissa -- The door was open too -- I felt like sneaking in to take a picture of the staircase!

@croquecamille -- Thanks for dropping by. I've put you on my Blogger blog list, which I love (much less guilt-inducing than Google Reader) so we can get back in touch.

  5. I miss blue skies... We've had cold, gray fog for the last week. I was desperate enough to take some photos of it... but not nearly as nice as that vibrant blue!

  6. Bonjour Betty - I am delighted to just stumble across your blog - my husband and I are on a BIG life changing move to Entraygues in EIGHT weeks (with a surprise ... to be born in September baby in tow!) so it's lovely to do my Rodez homework before we arrive :-) Kitty xxx

  7. I found these two photos breathtaking. This type of post drew me into your previous blogs a few years ago. You have a knack for capturing light and shadow - and mystery.

  8. Thank you Mimi! I have been enjoying taking photos again, but on this blog the focus will be Rodez and my travels, rather than too much countryside stuff, especially if it's taken by my husband! I appreciate your still dropping in and reading...hope things are okay...
