Shaken

Yesterday's shootings in Tucson, Arizona have shaken me to the bone.

I wanted to spend my online time today commenting on blogs, but decided to dedicate all my online activity to the victims, gun control, and restoring sanity to the US.

As I write, much is being made of Sarah Palin's now-infamous crosshair chart, and some are blaming the Tea Party and Palin, either directly or indirectly, for the tragic incident.

It may be a little early to make such a clear-cut connection; however I find the remarks from the sheriff overseeing the case telling.

It has been an emotionally exhausting day, as I found myself getting obsessed with the issue, and wanting to be able to do something about it. But what?

I may be joining a pro-gun control advocacy group, for starters.

Any suggestions?

  1. I dont know Betty. The advocacy group seems a good idea to me. We do have the occasional incidence of gun crime in the part of London where I live. It's mostly drug related.
    Terribly, terribly sad.

  2. Az sells more guns than any other state from what I've read. I lived in Tucson for 17 years so it was haunting for me to hear about the shootings. It seems to happen more and more.

  3. I think that is a good start, Betty. I'm working on helping people agree to disagree in my own little world and will continue to support stricter gun laws.

I find Sarah Palin an embarrassment, plain and simple.

I was shaken, too. My husband and I were wondering last spring when the first act of violence would occur. Our local congressman, no longer in office, was the target of many threats, and we were justing talking to him last week about how it felt to be a private citizen. Who wants to be a public servant with all those gun-toting nuts out there?

  4. Typo: "... restoring *IN*sanity to the US"?

There's clearly already enough of that already.

  6. i'm curious where did the graphic come from? it's terrific.

there are many in the u.s. who favor gun control, in fact i wouldn't be surprised if our numbers are greater than the anti-gun control population.

unfortunately in the u.s. money counts and the electorate is overall apathetic and not everyone who can vote, votes.

the pockets of the gun lovers are very, very deep. it is so depressing seeing how effective they can be regarding buying off politicians and buying elections!

    arggh...
